The Toronto based DJ and producer, announced via Instagram that the week long course will be free and will include everything from technique to theory—taught by a crew of poc & queer producers—to daily practice and feedback sessions.
Official Statement From Ciel Instagram:
“Announcing In Session: A week-long digital camp for women and nonbinary producers of color. For six days straight, students will be making and learning about music from sun up to sun down. Everything from technique to theory—taught by a crew of my fav poc & queer producers—to daily practice and feedback sessions. There will even be office hours after class for 1-on-1 Q&As with instructors.
Regardless of your experience level, if you make music, this space is for you. Come to find your sound, cook up beats, refine your technique, connect with your tribe, maybe even learn some musicology, and leave with a finished track. Best of all, IT’S FREE.
I am SUPER nervous to announce I will be leading a session on Chord Progression and Melody Making. I have knowledge – shared Ableton & Rekordbox tools & tricks with friends / followers a few times over this quarantine and enjoyed it so much. So so grateful for the opportunity to do this within a professional setting and to do so for other women of colour, I’m digging up all my theory books for this and even writing music specifically for the lesson. Major shoutout to @splice for sponsoring this initiative and truly believing in and working towards equity within the music industry
Thank you to @jadalareign & @samanthaglaw for bringing this concept to life and for all your work in making this happen.“
Major high fives to Ciel for starting projects like this, the world needs more of this.
The Digital Camp Hosted by Ciel:
September 13 until September 19 2020.
